For those concerned about the future of the Jeep Gladiator truck, we have good news to share. Jeep has confirmed that the Gladiator will return for the 2025 model year after a refresh this year, and it will include a new 4xe plug-in hybrid (PHEV) trim. The announcement was made by Jeep CEO Antonio Filosa on LinkedIn, an unusual platform for such news, but nonetheless exciting.
Filosa praised the Gladiator’s iconic Jeep open-air “freedom” before confirming the Gladiator 4xe, stating, “Next year, we’ll extend that freedom of choice even further with a Gladiator 4xe option.”
While Filosa did not provide specific details about the 2025 Jeep Gladiator 4xe, we can make some educated guesses based on existing 4xe models like the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee. It’s likely that the Gladiator 4xe will feature a hybridized turbo four-cylinder powertrain similar to the Wrangler 4xe’s, which includes a 2.0-liter turbo I-4 engine producing 270 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. This powertrain is augmented by a 44-hp, 39-lb-ft electric starter/generator motor and a 134-hp, 181-lb-ft traction motor, resulting in a total system power of 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque.
The Gladiator 4xe may also feature a larger battery pack than the Wrangler 4xe’s 17.3-kWh unit for potentially improved range. Given the Gladiator’s longer wheelbase and length, there could be room for a larger battery underneath the rear half of the cab, offering range parity with or even exceeding the Wrangler 4xe’s 22-mile EV-only figure. Additionally, the Gladiator’s longer wheelbase could allow for a greater towing capacity than the Wrangler 4xe’s 3,500-pound rating.
While Jeep has not released images of the 2025 Gladiator 4xe yet, we expect it to retain the signature blue tow hooks, badging, and optional graphics found on other 4xe models. The new Gladiator 4xe is also likely to offer familiar options from the current Gladiator and Wrangler 4xe models, such as the technology group and trailer tow group, along with possibly a new exterior color option and graphics package.
As we await more details from Jeep about the 2025 Gladiator 4xe, it’s clear that the future of this iconic truck is bright. Stay tuned for updates as they become available.
