Charging Ahead: The 2026 Kia EV4 is Coming to America!

Kia is continuing to expand its electric vehicle lineup, and after nearly two years of anticipation, the automaker has officially unveiled the production version of the 2026 Kia EV4. Originally introduced as a concept in 2023, the EV4 stays true to its design philosophy while offering multiple body styles and battery options. Built on Kia’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the EV4 is set to arrive in South Korea first in March 2025 before making its way to Europe and the United States. Here’s everything you need to know about Kia’s latest EV entry.

Performance & Powertrain

The 2026 Kia EV4 will launch with a single electric motor setup, delivering 201 horsepower to the front wheels. While there are no all-wheel-drive options at launch, Kia may introduce dual-motor variants in the future. The EV4 will offer two battery pack choices:

  • Standard Battery: 58.3 kWh, delivering an estimated 267 miles of range (WLTP-rated)
  • Long-Range Battery: 81.4 kWh, boasting an impressive 391 miles of range (WLTP-rated)

It’s important to note that these range figures are based on the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP), which tends to be more optimistic than the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) testing. The official EPA range estimates are expected to be lower.

In terms of acceleration, the EV4 with the smaller battery is slightly quicker due to its lower mass. It can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 7.4 seconds, while the long-range model takes 7.7 seconds.

Charging & Energy Capabilities

Like other Kia EV models on the E-GMP platform, the EV4 benefits from fast-charging capabilities. Kia claims that it can charge from 10% to 80% in just 31 minutes using a DC fast charger, thanks to its 800V architecture.

Additionally, the EV4 supports vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) functionality. This means owners can use the EV4 as a power source for appliances, camping gear, or even as a backup power supply for their homes. The V2G system supports up to 10 kVa, making it one of the most versatile electric vehicles in its class.

Chassis & Suspension

The EV4 is engineered for a comfortable yet responsive driving experience. The front wheels are controlled by MacPherson struts, while the rear features a multi-link suspension setup. Kia has also integrated rear coil-overs to enhance ride quality and handling.

Interior & Technology

Kia has designed the EV4’s cabin to be a tech-savvy, entertainment-focused space. It features:

  • Dual 12.3-inch screens for the digital gauge cluster and infotainment
  • A 5.3-inch auxiliary display for additional vehicle information
  • Vehicle Smart TV integration, allowing access to YouTube, Netflix, Disney Plus, and video games

This focus on in-car entertainment makes the EV4 stand out, particularly for passengers looking to stay engaged while charging or on long trips.

Body Styles & Production

Unlike many EVs that focus on a singular body type, the Kia EV4 will be available in two configurations:

  • Sedan: Manufactured at Kia’s Autoland Gwangmyeong EVO Plant in South Korea
  • Hatchback: Produced in Slovakia

The sedan will enter production first, with the South Korean launch scheduled for March 2025. The European release is expected in the second half of 2025, with the U.S. market following soon after. While Kia hasn’t provided a specific U.S. launch date, American buyers can likely expect availability by late 2025 or early 2026.

Will the Kia EV4 Be a Game-Changer?

Kia is clearly positioning the EV4 as a more affordable yet feature-rich alternative to its larger EV6 sibling. With competitive range, advanced technology, and multiple body styles, the EV4 could be a strong contender in the growing EV market. While pricing details are still unknown, it’s expected to slot below the EV6, making it an attractive option for those looking to enter the EV space without breaking the bank.

As we await more details on the official U.S. launch and pricing, the 2026 Kia EV4 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting EVs in Kia’s lineup. Stay tuned for further updates as Kia reveals more about this highly anticipated model.
